Training: US LNG Value Chain – Differentiators, Market Drivers, Technology and Potential Headwinds
Kindra Snow-McGregor, Petroskills
The US LNG Value Chain is an educational 3.5-hour presentation / discussion on US gulf coast LNG operations designed for anyone (both technical and non-technical) that is interested in learning about this super chilled fuel which is stored and transported as a liquid at roughly -160 oC [-260oF]. Given the extreme cryogenic conditions, the liquefaction, storage, and shipping equipment are more complex than typical natural gas plant operations.
This interactive session will discuss how the US became the world’s largest LNG exporter in 7 short years providing roughly 21% of the global exports in2024. Participants will learn about the scale of the global natural gas market and LNG trade, including a high-level view of the market drivers for USLNG and the headwinds that we are facing for continued expansion, from a very tight labor market in the US gulf coast and tariff impacts to the cost of equipment. From there we will discuss baseload liquefaction technology options that are used in our operations and how those technologies work (including advantages and disadvantages), LNG storage and shipping, LNG import terminals and lastly small-scale LNG including virtual pipelines and transportation fuel.
