News
The 2026 GPA Midstream Technical Conference last week was a reminder of something our industry knows but does not say loudly or frequently enough: midstream is innovative, growing, exciting, and built for the long term. Attendance reached a new high, surpassing the record set in 2019. Strong turnout is more than a number, it’s a sign of energy, commitment, and confidence in where our industry is headed.
News
The midstream industry has spent decades solving one of energy's hardest problems — how to move molecules reliably, efficiently, and at scale. The shift toward electrification doesn't change that mission; it expands it. The operators who understand both sides of the energy equation, molecules and electrons, are the ones who will define how large-scale power gets delivered over the next 20 years.
Advocacy Comments & Filings
GPA Midstream submitted to PHMSA a rebuttal to certain comments made in opposition to ExxonMobil’s preemption request, arguing that state common law requirements conflict with federal hazardous materials transportation law and undermine national uniformity. The rebuttal defends PHMSA’s authority under the Hazardous Materials Transportation Act and pushes back against opposing claims of federalism and constitutional overreach.
Advocacy Comments & Filings
GPA Midstream, API and AFPM filed comments urging PHMSA to overhaul its pipeline safety enforcement procedures to be more transparent, predictable, and efficient. Specifically, we're seeking clearer inspection timelines, automatic disclosure of key enforcement documents, fair treatment of warning letters, and an end to redundant or parallel investigations.

Advocacy Comments & Filings
After careful review by GPA Midstream subject matter experts, the association submitted comments to the Bureau of Land Management recommending changes to the agency's proposed revisions to its commingling rules. As drafted, BLM's proposed revisions are vague, unnecessarily burdensome, and, in some cases, even more restrictive than the measurement requirements found within the current rules. GPA Midstream's comments offer suggestions to address these issues.

The comments urge FWS to evaluate population data in the context of long-term trends, recognize the effectiveness of existing conservation programs, and consider the comparatively limited habitat impacts of midstream energy infrastructure.

News
There’s a conversation our industry needs to have. As I interact with midstream colleagues, I’m hearing companies across NDT, inspection, and mechanical integrity, saying the same thing: “We can’t find experienced technicians.” But experience doesn’t just appear overnight. Someone has to develop it.
