The 2026 GPA Midstream Technical Conference last week was a reminder of something our industry knows but does not say loudly or frequently enough: midstream is innovative, growing, exciting, and built for the long term. Attendance reached a new high, surpassing the record set in 2019. Strong turnout is more than a number, it’s a sign of energy, commitment, and confidence in where our industry is headed.
News
The midstream industry has spent decades solving one of energy's hardest problems — how to move molecules reliably, efficiently, and at scale. The shift toward electrification doesn't change that mission; it expands it. The operators who understand both sides of the energy equation, molecules and electrons, are the ones who will define how large-scale power gets delivered over the next 20 years.
News
There’s a conversation our industry needs to have. As I interact with midstream colleagues, I’m hearing companies across NDT, inspection, and mechanical integrity, saying the same thing: “We can’t find experienced technicians.” But experience doesn’t just appear overnight. Someone has to develop it.

GPA Midstream filed an amicus brief in American Gas Association v. Department of Energy urging the U.S. Supreme Court to review DOE rules that would effectively eliminate noncondensing natural gas furnaces and commercial water heaters. GPA Midstream argues DOE failed to show the rules are economically justified, relying on flawed analysis that understates consumer costs. The case potentially has far-reaching effects on fuel choice, heating costs, and long-term energy affordability.

GPA Midstream and a coalition of organizations urged the U.S. Senate to pass bipartisan, comprehensive permitting reform. The coalition letter points out that outdated and inefficient permitting processes are delaying critical infrastructure projects, driving up costs, and holding back investment in energy, transportation, broadband, and water systems. The coalition calls for a modernized, predictable permitting system to accelerate economic growth and deliver needed energy infrastructure.
