Safety Committee

GPA Midstream’s Safety Committee is organized to provide a forum and network for GPA Midstream members to discuss practices associated with safety activities, regulatory interpretations, safety metrics and programs, as well as develop GPA Midstream policy positions on federal, state and local safety regulatory issues affecting the midstream industry for GPA Midstream advocacy efforts before federal, state and local regulatory and governmental agencies.

This committee reviews aspects of federal and state regulations that relate to safety regulatory issues and files public comments, holds meetings with agencies’ staff, and files lawsuits as needed to protect the interests of midstream companies.

The committee holds regular quarterly meetings or conference calls and meets additionally as needed.

Typical Committee Member

This committee includes employees of GPA Midstream member companies who have a responsibility within their organizations for health and safety activities at operating facilities. Several committee members also belong to the GPA Midstream Pipeline Safety Committee.

Products & Services

This committee compiles and publishes safety statistics, including vehicle driving statistics, for the midstream industry, which are useful in evaluating individual performance, identifying problem areas in individual company operations and assisting with proposed legislation and regulation. An awards program recognizes companies for safe operations. Current and historical safety statistics are available to member company employees via the "Members Only" area of the web site.

Interaction with other GPA Midstream Committees/Outside Organizations

The Safety Committee interacts with and provides guidance to appropriate GPA Midstream committees and staff, including government affairs and legal committees, on issues relates to safety policy. This committee also coordinates activities with other trade associations and business groups to help advance GPA Midstream positions on safety regulatory issues.
