What does it take to build the infrastructure that powers modern life?
In the inaugural episode of The Midstream News Podcast, GPA Midstream Chair and MPLX Chief Operating Officer Greg Floerke joins host Kevin Broom for a wide-ranging conversation about the future of energy, the growth of America’s midstream industry, and the challenges of meeting rising demand.
“The one thing that sticks out on leadership is the difference between leading and managing,” Floerke said. “Being a servant leader versus being a boss, if you will. Telling or directing people what to do versus showing and then leading the way.”
Floerke shares his journey from growing up on a Colorado farm and entering the energy industry during the oil price collapse of 1986 to helping build the gathering systems, processing plants, and pipelines that helped transform the United States into a global energy powerhouse.
“What we got right was turning around a country that was a net importer, non-self-reliant, to the largest exporter of pretty much everything from a fossil fuel standpoint,” Floerke said. “And we’re doing it with energy security, and we’re doing it cleaner than anyone else.”
The conversation explores:
- How AI, automation, and advanced analytics are changing midstream operations
- Why data centers are driving unprecedented demand for natural gas and electricity
- Challenges in permitting, supply chains, and infrastructure development
- Leadership lessons learned over four decades in the energy business
- Why GPA Midstream’s role is more important than ever as the industry evolves through consolidation and growth
Whether you’re an energy professional, a business leader, a policymaker, or simply interested in the future of energy, this episode offers valuable insights into the people, technology, and infrastructure that keep energy flowing across America and around the world.
