GPA Midstream released the following statement:
GPA Midstream appreciates the actions the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has taken to ensure practical application of “Standards of Performance for New, Reconstructed, and Modified Sources and Emissions Guidelines for Existing Sources: Oil and Natural Gas Sector Climate Review Final Rule.” The recognition of the unreasonable timelines and the willingness to adjust to more reasonable expectations is appreciated by operators of midstream oil and natural gas companies.
Over the past several years, GPA Midstream has engaged the EPA on the “Quad O” series of emissions standards for the oil and natural gas production sector. Numerous GPA Midstream members are subject to those rules, including the latest iteration – Subpart OOOOb – which was promulgated last year. GPA Midstream has raised concerns with what was promulgated. While the deadline extension is appreciated, the association also hopes the agency will focus on making sure environmental regulations are practical and fit-for-purpose for midstream oil and natural gas operators.
